According to information from the Korean news site Thelec , Samsung is planning to build a new smartphone manufacturing plant in Vietnam. If the proposal is approved, Samsung Electronics will have a total of three smartphone factories in Vietnam.

According to information from Korea, Samsung wants to open more factories in Vietnam in the context of the company is closing factories in China.

In August, media reports indicated that Samsung wanted to discontinue smartphone production at its Tianjin plant. The company also has another factory in Huizhou. The total annual capacity of the two plants is about 100 million units per year.

In the past few years, Samsung's share of smartphone sales in China has fallen sharply to less than 1%. Speaking to the media, Samsung representatives said they are focusing on increasing the efficiency of the Tianjin plant.

Thelec said that the Vietnamese government can provide supportive policies so Samsung is determined to invest in a third plant in Vietnam. The plant will focus on producing low-cost, mid-range phones for markets such as South East Asia, South Korea and India.

Samsung Vietnam owns four factories including Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV), Samsung Display Vietnam (SDV) in Bac Ninh and Samsung Electronics Vietnam CEE (SEVT) in Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEVT) in HCMC.

Of these, SEV and SEVT are two smartphone manufacturers, SDV is responsible for the screen and SEHC manufactures household appliances.
